MURAL PRICING AND QUOTES

From pricing, designing stage, painting and what to expect when you hire a professional artist.

A mural is a commissioned piece of art, painted on walls. Unlike graffiti, which can often be illegal, murals are paid work and require a structure to be followed and they are usually follow a brief.

How much does a mural cost?

A wall varies depending on complexity and size. A wall is usually priced with:
- a design fee (starting at €250.00);
- price by sq/m (starts at €80.00 by sq/m);
- materials, which can be from €50.00 to hundreds.

These vary greatly on your project. but are a starting guide. Then, count for planning permission costs or potential scaffolding and scissor lift expenses if needed.

A common misconception is that murals are easy and just paint on walls. They are not. They're physical work that requires days or weeks of preparation in advance and days spent on site.

However, the hard work pays off, as it is a long-term investment which can last for a really long time, benefiting public space or your own.

What is the mural design process like?

In short, it works like this:

Once the artist has a brief, there is a research stage and concept design. This is where the idea is coming to life. Then, the drawing begins with sketches and drafts until it is refined and colored, revised, and approved.

The artwork is usually made digitally in my case and proportionately the wall size, so I am able to replicate a large-scale grid, which I will apply to the wall and paint following the same process:
prime the wall (background color), sketch, and color.

While it sounds easy peasy, designing a mural is more than making a pretty picture, but it has to consider who will see it and the impact it will have. It is a skill learned overtime to be able to replicate images in such large scale by hand.

Usually, murals are always beneficial, as they can add warmth and color or convey really impactful messages, from justice, mindset, or wellbeing.
